Legal and family aspects (from lowest to most intense level): (i) inheritance restrictions, including other legal restrictions such as property rights and burial rights; (ii) marital instability, including fear of the husband taking a second wife or divorcing the childless woman; (iii) the husband actually having a second wife; and (iv) divorce, including also expulsion from the home and physical abuse and violence perpetrated by the partner.
Legal and marriage effects were are reported in 26 of the reports. In five cases, the effects concerned inheritance restrictions and restricted burial rights. Many (21) of the reports mention marital instability, fear of divorce or fear of the husband taking an extra wife. Five of the reports state that husbands had actually taken a second wife. Divorce, expulsion from the home or physical abuse perpetrated by the husband is mentioned in 11 reports.
Frank Moretti initiated discussion by asking whether any support was coming from the education community on the fair use and free speech issues. Garbus responded that academics had testified before the court in defense of both sides. The net result was a loss for academics as the court having ruled in favor of the interests of copyright holders. He went on to say that a similar lawsuit had been brought against VCRs claiming they would totally ruin the movie industry, which, he reminded the audience, they ultimately did not. He used this example to illustrate that there is need for a new economic model based on the question of how much people will pay for a record they can download for free from the internet: does the free distribution of DVDs over the internet increase or decrease appetite for the product?
This report presents time-series photographs of the sea floor obtained from an instrumented tripod deployed at Site A in western Massachusetts Bay (42° 22.6' N., 70° 47.0' W., 30 m water depth, figure 1) from June 1997 through June 1998. Site A is approximately 1 km south of an ocean outfall that begandischarging treated sewage effluent from the Boston metropolitan area into Massachusetts Bay in September 2000. Time-series photographs and oceanographic observations were initiated at Site A in December 1989 and are anticipated to continue to September 2005. This is the first in a series of reports planned to summarize and distribute these images in digital form. The objective of these reports is to enable easy and rapid viewing of the photographs and to provide a medium-resolution digital archive. The images, obtained every 4 hours, are presented as a movie (in .avi format, which may be viewed using an image viewer such as QuickTime or Windows Media Player) and as individual images (.tif format). The images provide time-series observations of changes of the sea floor and near-bottom water properties.
Each movie frame includes an image of the sea floor at the top and shows oceanographic data collected at the same time at the bottom. The movie plays at 3 frames/second or 2 seconds/day. The field of view of the image is approximately 1.5 m wide and 1 m high. The vane on the compass in the images swings with the current and points in the direction of current flow. (Sometimes the vane swivel gets stuck preventing the vane from aligning with the current.) The triangular black arrow on the compass points toward magnetic north (16 degrees west of true north at Site A). The whitearrow in the upper left of the frame points toward true north. The file name of the image is in the upper left corner of each frame. (This number provides a key to the individual .tif images; see 'Images' in the table below.) The red digits in the lower left corner of the image show time (in Eastern Standard Time): HR.MM (hour and minute) on the upper line and SS.DD (second and day) on the second line. The day (DD) counter rolls over every 31 days and thus does not indicate true day of month for the entire deployment; the correct day of the month is below the data panel (see below). The third line of red digits is a record identifier (NN, the last two digits of the USGS mooring number).
MATLAB software (www.mathworks.com) was used to align the images, make the data plots, and create the .avi movie andthumbnail Web pages. M-files may either be opened within a text viewer or within the MATLAB editor. To download the m-files click on the links below.

Thomas' Three-Point PerfectionJunior guard Quinn Thomas had the hot hand from long range in January, hitting 50 percent from three-point land. Her third trey at Portland on Jan. 31 marked the 142nd of her career, putting Thomas solely in second place in the Bronco recordbooks for three-pointers made. She surpassed former teammate and 2002 graduate Becki Ashbaugh, who was actually in attendance that night, as she drove up from the University of Oregon, where she is currently attending law school. Thomas is currently at 145, and needs just 13 more to set a new mark, by passing Julie Lienert's record of 157, set from 1988-91. Thomas leads the league in three-point field goals made per game, averaging 2.41. She has a 36.0 percentage from long range, ranked fifth in the conference.More WCC StatisticsSanta Clara leads the league in three-point field goals made per game (6.76), three-point field goal percentage (.352) and three-point field goal defense (.299), while ranking second in field goal percentage (.410) and assists (14.19). Individually, Ashley Graham is second in three-point field goal percentage (.432), and fourth in three-point field goals made (1.81) in assists (3.90). Quinn Thomas is tops in three-point field goals made (2.41), fifth in percentage (.360) and 10th in scoring (11.2). Jennie Rondel is ranked 15th in scoring (9.6) and ninth in field goal percentage (.455), while Jenni Gottschalk is ranked 12th in rebounding (5.2) and Ashley Gonnerman is seventh in free throw percentage (.705).Unbeatable at Leavey vs. the WCCThe Broncos have won 39 of its last 43 regular season home league contests played in Leavey, dating back to the last six-plus seasons.Thomas Lights Up Court on BirthdayJunior guard Quinn Thomas celebrated her 21st birthday on the court against San Diego State. The team found itself down 18 points in the second half, but a Bronco run, capped by a Thomas three, erased the deficit and gave SCU a 60-59 lead. Later, again, with the Broncos' down, Thomas hit a baseline three with 18.3 seconds on the clock, which served to be the game-winner. The gift of victory isn't the first for this Capricorn. Last season, the Broncos played TCU on her special day, and saw a 23-point, 5-rebound performance to lead the Broncos.A Fountain of YouthSanta Clara is one of the top 15 youngest women's basketball teams that is taking the court this season. With six freshmen, two sophomores, three juniors and two seniors, the Broncos' average age is 19.4 years heading into the season.A Look Ahead: Broncos Remain at HomeSanta Clara will continue the West Coast Conference season and host San Diego on Thursday before visiting Saint Mary's for a Saturday contest.Live on the InternetSanta Clara's entire schedule returns to the Internet, as a live audio broadcast will be available for a third season on www.SantaClaraBroncos.com. Additionally, Leavey Center contests can be followed online with a live statistical tracker, also located on SCU's official athletic website. By logging on, fans receive real-time updated statistics direct from the official scoring computer, allowing users to listen to the audio broadcast and keep up with the statistics simultaneously. Anthony Passarelli returns as the voice of the Broncos for a third season.More Media CoverageThe University's student radio station, KSCU 103.3 FM, is scheduled to air the entire women's home WCC schedule.
